Dear Students and Families,

As the TMSA family, we have had a great start to the new school year. We are working very hard to provide new services and programs to our students. Please see the following events and services that will be initiated for students.

Mark your calendars for important events:

  • College Night for Juniors and their Parents on Friday, September 22, at 3:00 pm
  • The first High School Social of the year, on Thursday, September 28, from 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm
  • CFNC - Parent College Night (Juniors and Sophomores)

New Services:

1. We have purchased Naviance, a College and Career Readiness Online Platform, which will serve our students with following features:

Here is the link to login:

  • Career Interest Profiler – This career interest inventory helps students discover the types of work activities and careers that match their interests.
  • StrengthsExplorer® - Students are given 78 questions asking the students if they associate themselves with the statement that is being presented. Once complete, the students are presented with their top three themes.
  • Do What You Are® - This test, based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), helps students learn about their personality, strengths, and weaknesses.
  • Learning Style Inventory™ - This assessment helps identify each student’s environmental, emotional, sociological, and physical preferences to create their best possible learning environment at school and at home.
  • MI Advantage™ - Using theory of multiple intelligences, this inventory generates a comprehensive, personalized report covering nine distinct intelligences: musical-rhythmic and harmonic, visual-spatial, verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and existential).
Furthermore, there are tools that students can use throughout high school to be better prepared and stronger applicants when the college application process rolls around, which include:
  • Enrichment Programs – This database allows students to search for enrichment programs, many of which are held over the summer.
  • Resume – This résumé builder is an excellent way for students to keep track of everything that they do throughout their college experience so that they do not forget when it comes time for college applications.
  • Game Plan – This series of questions are designed to help the college counselor work with each student to develop a game plan for achieving their goals after graduation.
  • Journal – Students can take notes on college visits, college fairs, or anything else that they wish to remember throughout the college application process.
As we enter the college admissions process, Naviance offers an abundance of tools to guide students through from beginning to end.  Key features include:
  • SuperMatch™ College Search
  • College Match – This tool takes the colleges on your “Colleges I’m Thinking About” list and identifies the top five schools that overlap on other students’ college lists nationwide.
  • College Compare – Students can identify up to ten colleges and get a side-by-side visual comparison of their GPA and test scores to the average accepted students from our school.
  • Scattergrams – This hallmark feature of Naviance allows students to see a visual of where their GPA and test scores stand in comparison to other students from TMSA that will be applied to a particular school.
  • College Visits – These visits are listed on Naviance and are updated throughout the year.
  • Letters of Recommendation – After students request their teacher letters of recommendations in person, they must officially request their letters on Naviance.  Naviance is connected to the Common Application and many other school’s applications.  Teachers then upload their letters to Naviance, which along with the transcript, school profile, school report, and counselor recommendation are digitally sent to each of the colleges.

 2. We will also be using the following service for communications:

Remind is a one-way text messaging and email system that allows simple reminders to be sent directly to any device; all personal information remains completely confidential.  We will never see your phone number. Please see this link for How to Sign up.

3. Home visits. Home visits improve the communication between student, parent, and teacher, which in return contributes to student success. Please click on this link to sign up for a home visit.

Thank you!
